"I just think that it’s bad when boy looks at a girl and thinks that the way he sees the girl is better than the girl actually is. And I think it’s bad when the most honest way a boy can look at a girl is through a camera."
— Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Each walk down this road
becomes less and less enchanting.
your colors no longer vibrant,
scenes less entrancing.

Your eyes have lost their
long-awaited twinkle
in the limelight, you have vanished,
gone away, entirely - I wonder
now if you had ever planned
to stay
around.

Each sunset has become only
half as mysterious as the newly
discovered sunrise
but my love, you’re still here
if I close my eyes
and whisper soft - like a dream,
you’re lying here next to me.

With each separation, life loses its sting
each goodbye sheds one less tear
and I have no feelings
left to shatter
my ribs
like they used to explode out of my chest.
I have laid my heart to a peaceful rest
at home - guarded - no longer here
on my sleeve for you to see.

And when you ask me, what happened?
where have you gone? What have you done with the girl I once loved?

I will stare you, dead in the eyes,
so you can see mine glow, for one last time.
Sweetheart, I will tell you,
Each walk down this road
has been less enchanting
Our love that once flowed
in the moonlight while dancing
has been lost to the stars and the moon,
the beauty in the night sky.
I am no longer lost in the sparkle of your eyes,
your colors have faded - no more are they vibrant.
my voice, once loud, has been rendered silent.

New days are calling me.
New places and faces
stare at me in my dreams -
Come! Play! You’re welcome to stay!
I think, this time, I will.

The past two weekend have been nothing short of phenomenal. Thank you to everyone who made it that way!💙💜💚 #Campfamily #twinsister #roommate #graduation #birthday #merica

aventura-nueva:

Do not fool yourself into believing
that everyone is the same kind of person as you.

Do not even take one step in the direction of the idea
that we are all guided by the same compass.
While yours may point North, mine points me to my dreams.
Another’s points them towards the sea,
and yet…

I think in stories,
speak in poems,
and dream in the most beautiful of songs.

I kid you not when I tell you that I’m about to announce a new adventure today.
Elaine Evarts, mastermind of aventura-nueva, shares the story of her blog name’s origin (which, remarkably, is also a story of her life) in our Q&A session. I won’t spoil the details, but I have to say that Elaine has been seasoned by her experiences in life and it is reflected luminously through her writing.
One of the most wonderful aspects of Elaine as I’ve come to find is her versatility as a writer. Let me show you how!
She partakes in slam poetry (which you may see HERE as she is currently competing in the FY Poetry Slam Finals)
She nails the art of writing poetry in another language (No Me Permito a Mi Mismo Translated)
She makes a habit with stepping out of her comfort zones by experimenting, ie, Haiku Fridays ;)
She creates lovely works all the time, about everything! (One of my favorite poems by Elaine)
If you’re looking for inspiration, aventura-nueva isn’t shy to provide you with refreshing perspectives and different mediums in the art of poetry.
Please check her out if you have the time for a New Adventure. :)

Down comes the summer rain,
and I know too well that I shouldn’t be thinking alone
but if you join me you’ll find me far too cruel,
shortly you’ll becomes another rusty rung on the shaky step stool ladder
I climb up and off into the aloof every morning.

The rain patters at the window but I,
I am not fooled by its comforting rhythm.
I am alone here. The rain is not a friend to me,
Spend some time with me - you’ll see
I have so much to share
but no gumption to share it with.
I have been lost up here in the dream world
that I created when this one hurled
me into darkness, that I’ve no idea how to step back down
I’m dying to abdicate my crown
and leave it for someone else to find -
Yes, I’m out of my mind.
I know you were wondering.

Bottle after bottle, the summer rain pours.
I’ve been losing so long I’ve stopped keeping score.
Maybe one day it will rain hard enough
that I’ll fall off the ladder
that takes me into the abyss.

Do not fool yourself into believing
that everyone is the same kind of person as you.

Do not even take one step in the direction of the idea
that we are all guided by the same compass.
While yours may point North, mine points me to my dreams.
Another’s points them towards the sea,
and yet another’s will one day point them to me, if I’m lucky.

Do not imagine that everyone has eyes as wide as yours,
hands reaching, a mind that questions, what’s out there?
Some will feign interest, but not everybody cares.

Do not fool yourself into believing
that everyone out there has the same stock
invested in the beauty of life.
The people that rely on you the most
will be the last ones to stand by you
when life decides to knock you out and kick you
while you are face down in the dirtiest mess
you never imagined that you would let
yourself get into.

Tune it out when someone says,
"I get it. I’ve been there."
They are not you, and you are not them
so they have not, in reality, been
where ever it is they tell you. Instead,

Tell them:
"Do not pretend that you know how I feel,
until you have stepped inside of my skin.
Do not send me your sympathies,
Your pity is worthless for barter.”

Do not believe that common ground is inevitable,
hardly anything is shared among humans.

—Elaine Marie

I am on the up-and-up.

I’m taking time to breathe things in and find inspiration all over again. One of the reasons I have been able to write well throughout my life is because I read widely, and therefore think widely. So I am currently revisiting an old friend, if you will, Robert Pirsig’s Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.

I am always thinking in lines of poetry, and I always have new poems in the works…they might just take longer to make it here to tumblr.

In the meantime, if you’d like to see all the lovely things I reblog, you can follow my secondary blog, evartse.tumblr.com

(Revised)

Oh how I missed this! Slowly crawling back into the world after an intense burnout. @radiobean #openmic #mondaynight #poetry #livemusic #switchback

two semesters of grad school down, one more left this fall and then it’s off to the peace corps for me.

THIS SHIT IS CRAZY.

I’m almost done with all the stuff that is keeping me away from tumblr. i should be back at it later this week….i can’t wait to spend an entire day catching up. miss you all <3

In case you didn’t guess, April kind of left me burnt out.

Also, I’m sick with a flu-like cold that is currently kicking my ass,
AND it’s finals week,
AND i’m preparing to give a seminar to some of my university’s faculty next week,
AND I could complain for days but I’m trying really hard not to.

Let me leave it at I’ll be back soon, Tumblr. I can’t stay away for long.

Nyquil and Writer’s block
are such a storm
my eyes are watery
my head is wavy

I am under the sea
and let me tell you I see
the inside of my eyelids
are looking pretty good to me.

I am under the sea
and let me tell you baby
i could really use your arms around me
goodnight.
